The War Amputations of Canada (The War Amps) is a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to supporting amputees across the country. Founded in 1918 by war amputee veterans returning home from the First World War, the organization initially focused on providing assistance, advocacy and a sense of community for amputee veterans. Over the years, The War Amps has expanded its support to include all Canadian amputees, including adults and children.
The organization’s Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program offers comprehensive services to young amputees and their families, including financial assistance for artificial limbs, regional events and peer support. The War Amps also provides a voice for amputees through the Advocacy Program, which works to ensure amputees have access to appropriate care, financial benefits and legal rights.
All of The War Amps programs and services are made possible through donations from the public. Thanks to this support, The War Amps can continue to make a difference in the lives of amputees now and in the future.
