Inasmuch Community Society in Abbotsford, BC exists to support refugee claimants who have fled to Canada seeking asylum after facing imminent danger—violence, torture, or persecution—in their home countries, where their governments could not or would not protect them. Many arrive with only what they can carry. Forced to flee urgently, they leave behind family, careers, and everything familiar. They often have no financial resources, limited English, and little understanding of the complex refugee system they must now navigate. Their journey is long and uncertain—often taking years—as they wait for hearings, work to prove their case, secure housing, find employment, and begin rebuilding their lives, all while living with the fear of being sent back. At Inasmuch, we provide safe, family-like transitional housing and holistic support—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. We walk alongside each individual as they navigate legal, healthcare, education, and employment systems. We advocate for those without a voice, support healing from trauma, and foster a welcoming community where dignity can be restored and hope rebuilt. Unlike government-assisted or privately sponsored refugees, refugee claimant support programs receive little funding. Inasmuch receives no government funding to operate our three transition homes and only partial provincial support for two front-line staff. The majority of this work is made possible through donors and grants. We are urgently seeking monthly partners, corporate sponsors, churches, and foundations to help sustain and grow this life-changing work. If you would like to learn more or explore partnership opportunities, please contact: Kelly Rader, Executive Director 📞 604-316-2102 ✉️ director@inasmuch.ca Together, we can help refugee claimants find safety, restore dignity, and move toward independence.
