BC Wildfire Relief Fund: From Immediate Relief to Rebuilding
Wildfires are once again impacting communities across British Columbia - forcing evacuations, displacing families and leaving communities facing both immediate needs and a long road to recovery.
In response to this summer's wildfires, GiveWise has once again activated the BC Wildfire Relief Fund, providing a way for our community to come together and support wildfire relief and recovery efforts across the province.
Since mid-July, $33,500 has been raised through the Fund to support communities impacted by this year's wildfires.
And those funds are already making a difference.
$25,000 supporting immediate needs
GiveWise has directed $25,000 to four organizations actively responding on the ground in wildfire-affected communities across BC. These funds are supporting immediate relief and recovery efforts happening right now - from food and essential supplies to emergency shelter, disaster response and support for displaced residents.
Where your generosity is making an impact
Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) - Vernon / Bradley Creek
Following its emergency wildfire response, OKIB has established a Community Resiliency Centre to help residents navigate recovery and connect with government, health and community supports.
Samaritan's Purse Canada - Summerland
Supporting wildfire evacuees with emergency shelter and essential supplies. As part of its BC wildfire response, Samaritan's Purse has equipped mass-care facilities with more than 100 cots, along with blankets, pillows, hygiene kits and privacy screens.
Summerland Food Bank & Resource Centre - Summerland
Back to full operations following the wildfire, the Summerland Food Bank is providing food and essential support while preparing to meet the longer-term needs of residents recovering from the wildfire.
The Salvation Army - Emergency Disaster Services - Clinton / 70 Mile House
Supporting residents displaced from Clinton and 70 Mile House with three meals a day, essential supplies, emotional support and connections to additional community resources.
From immediate relief to rebuilding
While the immediate response continues, we also know that recovery from a wildfire doesn't end when the fire is out.
The remaining funds - along with new donations to the BC Wildfire Relief Fund - will help communities recover, rebuild and move forward.
We hope to raise at least another $10,000 to help support this next phase. In the coming weeks, GiveWise will continue to assess where support is needed and identify organizations helping communities through longer-term recovery and rebuilding.
