Reflections on Canadian Hospitality and the Power of Connection

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Lately, I have found myself deeply immersed in contemplation about our Canadian culture and our practices of hospitality. It's a subject that has been challenging me in profound ways, urging me to evaluate our values and beliefs as a community. In a society where privacy and personal space are highly valued, I have been questioning the essence of connection and what it truly means to be open and welcoming.

I've been inspired by the experiences of many immigrants who have recently arrived in Canada. They come from cultures where living in community and inviting one another into their homes is the norm. Their ability to foster connections and embrace others with open arms is a testament to the richness of human interaction.

A recent encounter served as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of hospitality. My husband, Dan, and I were invited to dinner by a fine young man with whom I work closely. This gesture was not just an invitation; it was a bridge of connection in a society where such openness is not always the norm. We felt deeply honored and cherished during our time together, realizing the beauty of breaking down barriers and embracing the warmth of genuine human connection.

This experience has challenged me to re-evaluate our practices. It has made me realize that as much as privacy and personal space are valued, there is immense value in opening our hearts and homes to others. The simple act of inviting someone in can create bonds that transcend cultural differences and foster a sense of belonging.

As we celebrate the holiday season, let us all take a moment to reflect on the value of connection and hospitality. Let us challenge ourselves to be more open, to reach out to our neighbors, colleagues, and friends, and to invite them into our lives. In doing so, we not only enrich our own experiences but also contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we navigate these meaningful reflections and strive to make a difference in the lives of others. Together, let's continue to build a community where the warmth of hospitality and the power of connection are cherished and shared by all.

Warm regards,
